LionShareable

Giving Thanks Edition

At LionShare, November isn’t just another month on the calendar — it’s a reminder of why we do what we do.

Seven years ago, we started with a simple idea: to create better spaces for people to work, connect, and build something meaningful. What’s grown from that idea is so much more than office walls or workdens — it’s a community of dreamers, doers, and givers who continue to inspire me every single day.

This year, I’m especially grateful for our team, whose dedication keeps this place humming; for our members, whose stories give LionShare its heartbeat; and for the partners and friends who’ve believed in us from day one.

As we head into the holidays, I hope everyone in the LionShare family takes a moment to celebrate what they’ve built — not just in business, but in kindness.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for making LionShare more than a place to work — thank you for making it a place to belong.

Customer Spotlight: The Giving Closet

Making a Difference

The Giving Closet Project (GCP) is a nonprofit organization committed to removing educational barriers for students experiencing chronic and/or situational poverty. Since 2016, we have served over 19,000 students and families across Northeast & South Florida. Today, GCP is the connective force behind a network of 75+ unique health & social service agencies and two large school districts (Duval & Palm Beach County).

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead

For thousands of students across Northeast and South Florida, the lack of access to basic clothing and hygiene items has a profound impact on their mental health, academic performance, and a student’s overall well-being. Students who come to school without clean clothes or essential hygiene supplies often experience shame, bullying, and social isolation, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and chronic absenteeism. Unmet basic needs disrupt their ability to focus, engage, and succeed in the class.

The Giving Closet Project

The Giving Closet Project’s 2nd Annual Rhythm & Roots Soirée proved to be a night to remember. Held October 11, 2025, at The River Club in downtown Jacksonville, the event brought together friends, families, partners, and supporters for an evening filled with gratitude, connection, and purpose. Guests enjoyed live music, dinner, and dancing while celebrating nine years of the organization’s mission to support students facing clothing and hygiene insecurity. More than $30,000 was raised to help expand The Giving Closet Project’s reach across Northeast Florida. Among the attendees were several members of the LionShare team, Kenny and Keely were especially excited to be part of the evening — and yes, they looked like movie stars!

How You Can Get Involved

The Giving Closet Project’s impact depends on the generosity and involvement of the Jacksonville community — and there are plenty of ways to help. Local businesses, schools, and community groups can make a difference by hosting a drive to collect clothing, shoes, school supplies, or hygiene items, with an especially strong need for elementary-aged children’s apparel. Those looking to share their professional expertise can donate their talent, joining one of The Giving Closet Project’s volunteer committees in areas like marketing, design, data, finance, or fundraising. And for those who prefer hands-on participation, the organization is always seeking volunteers to assist at one-time events or ongoing district hubs. However you choose to give back, every contribution — of time, skill, or support — helps ensure students in need are equipped to succeed.

Reach out to Jennifer if you would like to get involved.

Thriving In the High-Calorie Season – Joey’s Holiday Health Habits of Success

Between Thanksgiving dinners, office parties, and endless dessert tables, it’s easy for the holiday season to throw even the best routines off track. But staying healthy doesn’t have to mean skipping the fun. LionShare member Joey Janussa, a certified fitness and nutrition professional, shares his practical tips for keeping energy high, stress low, and balance in check all season long. From smarter holiday plate choices to simple movement breaks between festivities, Joey’s advice will help you start the new year feeling strong — not sluggish.

The holiday season is famously delicious yet quite challenging for anyone trying to maintain their fitness and health lifestyle - or anyone hoping they can somehow avoid another 6 pounds of annual weight gain - again.

With endless potlucks, dessert deliveries, festive cocktails, and indulgent dinners, it’s easy to slip into habits that can lead to unwanted weight gain, lethargy and setbacks. However, with a pre-planned, mindful approach, grounded in proven principles, you can enjoy the holidays without falling off track.

Here are some of my top tips for staying “fit” over the holidays for anyone who wants to fully enjoy the season - without the “food anxiety” or the constant inner battle of “good choice vs. bad choice”.

How do wind turbines work? - Rebecca J. Barthelmie and Sara C. Pryor

Yes you want to have family time BUT - a HEALTHY you is what your loved ones need - so make your fitness time a priority - so you can be your best for them.

Smart Eating for the Festive Frenzy

One of the most effective strategies I use with coaching clients during the season of abundance is to eat lighter earlier in the day, saving your hunger and calorie intake primarily for evening events or dinners where full meals, richer foods and various desserts are more likely to be present.

This doesn’t mean starving yourself - but practicing what I call a morning “phantom” fast: start your day with your favorite coffee, with a touch of natural creamer and/or stevia extract for some herbal sweetness - or herbal teas, and a food-derived multi-vitamin/mineral supplement that supports your energy, micronutrient needs and metabolism.

This light start helps manage overall calorie intake while keeping you alert, energized and focused.

For lunch or snacking, choose nutrient-dense but lower-calorie options - think fresh vegetables (cucumbers, carrots, baby tomatoes), lean proteins such as bone broth, or a small serving of nuts or seeds - to keep your energy steady without overfilling.

When dinner or parties arrive, engage in mindful eating: savor every bite, chew slowly, and tune in to satisfaction and fullness cues.

Allow yourself to enjoy your favorite dishes but be EXTRA MINDFUL of portion sizes to avoid overindulgence and post-meal discomfort (physical and mental). This simple “behavior upgrade” not only prevents holiday weight gain - but it also sets the stage for you already being on a roll as the New Year kicks in

Mental Reset and Exercise Prioritization

Stress during the holidays can wreak havoc on motivation and mental resilience, especially for busy professionals juggling work, family events, travel and social obligations.

One vital tip is to not wait until January 1st to “restart” your fitness routine. Begin mental and physical resets now by committing to regular exercise even during the busiest weeks - and especially during the “days off” work.

Exercise before the New Year can serve as a powerful stress reliever, mood enhancer, and metabolism booster, reducing the risk of emotional eating and maintaining consistency.

THE KEY is to keep it simple, sustainable and repeatable - and NOT complicate your plan or approach. For those already engaged in fitness, consider adjusting your routines to accommodate time constraints without sacrificing quality. Shorter, focused training sessions - what I call “micro-workouts” (see example micro-workouts on Joey’s YouTube channel) can sustain momentum.

Mentally prioritize this time as essential self-care rather than optional. Remember, a small amount of PROPER exercise daily trumps an all-or-nothing extreme approach and helps balance holiday indulgences.

Keeping this mindset helps prevent the common holiday slump - and the all too common New Year’s resolution “rebound”..

Additional Tips for Holiday Health

  • Stay hydrated: Alcohol and rich foods can dehydrate the body; drinking water with a pinch of sea salt throughout the day supports metabolism and curbs unnecessary snacking.
  • Plan physical movement: Incorporate fun activities like family hikes, park walks, bike rides, dancing, or family walks to blend social connection and fitness.
  • Manage sleep: Prioritize good sleep hygiene to combat stress and support recovery amidst seasonal disruptions.
  • Practice gratitude what’s good - and mindful quiet moments to reduce emotional eating impulses linked to the high-activity holiday surroundings and over-stimulation.

The holidays can and should be enjoyed without fear of “food-guilt” or extreme deprivation. By applying smart, proven eating strategies each day, staying mentally grounded - with a PLAN, and making consistent but flexible exercise a priority, you can navigate this high-calorie season with confidence and definite success.

Pumpkin Spiced What?

Pumpkin Spice: The Fall Craze That Keeps Going — And Why

As the leaves start to turn and the air gets a little crisper, one flavor signals the kickoff of autumn more than any other: pumpkin spice. Once tied almost exclusively to a warm latte, the flavor-blend has exploded into dozens of product categories, and the business has grown into something big enough to command serious attention.

The Big Picture & Market Snapshot

  • In the U.S., sales of pumpkin-spice-flavored products surpassed $1.1 billion in 2023, according to NielsenIQ data.
  • Some market-research firms value the pumpkin-spice products market at nearly $1.0 billion in 2024 and as high as $2.17 billion by 2032 (CAGR ~10.2%).
  • Among consumers, the typical spend on pumpkin-spice items is about $32 per person per month during the fall season; higher still among Millennials who average ~$64 per month.
  • Meanwhile, in a simpler era, 10 years ago annual pumpkin-spice product sales in the U.S. were around $361 million.
These figures show how what was once niche has become a seasonal powerhouse. For business-spaces like ours, the lesson is clear: fall flavor matters—both emotionally and economically.

What Exactly Is “Pumpkin Spice”?

It might surprise you: the term “pumpkin spice” rarely means there’s actual pumpkin in the blend. According to food scientist commentary featured in a Forbes article by Amanda Kooser, the iconic profile of cinnamon + nutmeg + ginger + clove is what consumers hook into—the aroma and flavor trigger nostalgic fall feelings, not puree or pumpkin solids. Put simply: you’re buying autumn in a bottle (or bag, or bar), more than literal squash.

Why the Frenzy?

  • Limited-time availability. The “get it while you can” window fuels urgency and repeated purchases.
  • Nostalgia & emotion. That warm, spiced aroma triggers memories of fall, gatherings, warmth.
  • Cross-category licensing. Brands expand flavor into unexpected places (“Yes, there’s pumpkin spice in…?”) which creates social buzz.
  • But a caution: there are signs of pumpkin-spice fatigue. Some surveys report up to 45 % of consumers saying they’re tired of it, and other fall flavors (like cinnamon, caramel, apple) are gaining ground.

What We Can Learn From the Pumpkin Spice Phenomenon

Pumpkin spice isn’t just a flavor — it’s a masterclass in marketing. Every fall, brands large and small ride the wave of anticipation, nostalgia, and “fear of missing out” that this seasonal favorite creates. It’s proof that limited-time availability and emotional connection can turn even the simplest concept into a billion-dollar movement.

So what can local businesses learn from this? Create moments that feel special. Whether it’s a once-a-year offer, a cozy seasonal theme, or a heartfelt connection to your customers’ memories, scarcity and sentiment drive engagement. Ask yourself: Can your business benefit from a little seasonal storytelling? Could your brand inspire the same kind of loyalty that people have for a latte?

And yes — you can bet your pumpkin spice latte that Keely already has air fresheners throughout LionShare to keep everyone in a perfectly “spice-y” mood this fall.
